Quotes:

One player in particular that impressed on Sunday was Sarah Mayling. ... Skinner was pleased to see Mayling create plenty of space up front for her attacking team mates.

He said: “She made some very intelligent runs and got herself into some really good goalscoring positions. Sarah is another player who has had some niggling injuries and we haven’t truly seen the best of her this season, but she can take a lot of confidence from today and really kick on now.”

Quotes:

She’s [Sarah Mayling] been absolutely, outrageously good out there. She offers so much defensively; she offers so much getting forward; she’s got so much energy. Honestly, she’s hugely underrated because I think she’s been superb.
Carla Ward, Birmingham City Manager

I think I could play Sarah Mayling anywhere in the eleven and she would do a job. She is a very, very, very intelligent footballer. She gives you so much, she’s so focused.
Carla Ward full of praise for the versatile Sarah Mayling.

Quotes:

The versatile Mayling is admired by the Manager: "Pre-season she has done both things equally.

"At the beginning, she was more a midfielder and moved to full-back because of a specific need.

"She has done well for me. She is a very complete athlete. You can ask her so many different things and she will perform well. Wherever you put her.

"I haven't chosen her as a goalie yet, though . . . but it may happen!"

I was very impressed with Sarah Mayling as well, coming in, and did a fantastic job. Yeah, absolutely, as you say its someone who isn't very familar to the left back position and as someone who is predominantely right footed she did really well playing at left back.

She's very versatile, Sarah. She can play anywhere where she gets asked. Hopefully she continues playing and showing the WSL what she can do!

Quotes:

Sarah Mayling replaced Marisa Ewers and she was prominent in the first-half as she exploited the space down the right flank left by Aston Villa’s back three. Just two minutes in she was involved in a lovely piece of build-up play with Meaghan Sargeant and Lucy Quinn. However, with Villa’s defence stepping up high, they caught Blues offside on several occasions including this one.

Sarah Mayling is yet another 22-year-old with some strong numbers. She attempted 6.1 progressive passes p90 with the 11th highest accuracy in the division. She played more minutes than Sampson, but she still played just shy of half of the available minutes. She’s anther one who could be worth keeping an eye on if she can continue these numbers across a longer time period.

Quotes:

After 39 minutes Ellen White rose to head the ball into the back of the net, giving Birmingham the lead they deserved. Sarah Mayling deserved credit for the ball into the box (something that she did over and over) the next chance she nearly added her name to the scoresheet after hitting the post from a great shot. ... The same combo for the first goal created the second as Sarah Mayling set up Ellen White to score her second of the game giving Birmingham a clear lead going into half time at 2-0.

Player Of The Match - Sarah Mayling - Her set pieces, energy and crosses were on point throughout the game. Can see her building a great combination with Ellen White upfront already.

Mayling is quick, direct, technically sound, strong and athletic. She's one of the hottest prospects in the female game - the complete midfielder.
