Blues were only able to name one substitute, Sophie Whitehouse, with no outfield players available due to injuries. Tottenham named five ex-Blues players in their starting lineup. Blues struggled to get anything from the game but in the end the result didn't matter as Bristol City had failed to beat Brighton which meant Blues future in the WSL was safe for another season.

Birmingham didn't play very well in the West Midlands derby and to be honest Villa deserved to win. However, a last minute free kick from substitute Veatriki Sarri evaded everyone and ended up in the back of the net much to the delight of players, coaches and fans.

Blues had a difficult afternoon of football against a world class Arsenal side. It didn't help matters either that this was the first time Arsenal were allowed fans back in the stadium but because of government rules Birmingham weren't allowed to travel. Blues did very well to hold back the Gunners for almost an hour before Arsenal showed the class they have and scored three goals.

Blues were only able to name a side containing two substitutes as injuries hit us hard. The game was very tense as both sides didn't want to make any mistakes. However as the game went on Blues showed a moment of quality from Georgia Brougham htting a long pass to Lucy Whipp who whipped the ball into the penalty area and as Villa desperately tried to clear it Claudia Walker was in the right place at the right time to fire the ball in to the roof of the net. The City is Blue!

Bristol could not find a way past a resolute Birmingham defence. The partnership of Corsie and Brougham is working really well and teams are finding it hard to break us down. Claudia Walker scored the pick of the 4 goals with a belter from the edge of the area that flew into the top corner.

Blues played much better today especially in the first half where we matched Man United toe-to-toe. Harriet Scott moved into Right Back and Sarah Mayling played on the wing as part of a front three. Mayling provided two fantastic crosses into the box that we really should have scored from and delivered a fantastic free kick which United defender Abbi McManus deflected into her own net.

Blues struggled in their first match of the season but at times they showed some very promising glimpses of what may be to come. To be fair, half of the team has only been assembled in the last two weeks so it was a tall order to expect them to get the result. Harriet Scott commanded the back four very well and showed good leadership skills.
